If you're in Taiwan, one of the best thing you can do is culinary trip. The following were some of my favorites food, snack and beverages that I like to eat in Taiwan:
1. Braised Pork Rice (魯肉飯) & Ribs Stewed in medicinal herbs(藥燉排骨)

Din Tai Fung also has the best xiao long bao, one of their signature dishes. Well, I could say it was worth the wait. Not only that, Din Tai Fung also famous with the quality of food is excellence. You can see how it was prepare carefully through aquariums of glass windows where groups of chefs, folding, steaming, rolling and stretching the dough.
4. Taiwanese Style Fried Chicken (雞排)
This fried chicken is the most popular Taiwan Street Food. It's so crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, a must-try at any night market. There are some popular stalls that sell this delicious fried chicken such as HOT-STAR Large Fried Chicken (豪大大雞排), Two Peck Chicken Pie (2派克脆皮雞排), and many more.
5. Bubble Milk Tea (珍珠奶茶)
Milk tea and pearl are the best combination to make the most delicious Taiwanese bubble milk tea. Taiwanese really loves to drink milk tea, it's proven by how many milk tea shops in each area. Many variations of tea are served including black tea, jasmine tea, green tea and other mix-ins (such as honey, syrup, and sugar) and usually it's served cold rather than hot.
6. Lu Wei (滷味)
Basically it's a mix of meat, tofu, vegetables, dumplings and noodles braised in broth. The dish tastes really delicious combination of a little sweet, not too salty and of course you could add some chili (if you like spicy food). I would recommended to try this dish in Shida Night Market (師大夜市), the nearest MRT station is Taipower Building Station (台電大樓站).
7. Oyster Omelet (蚵仔煎)
Oyster omelet is one of the famous dish in night street across Taiwan. It is made with fresh oysters, potato starch, eggs and vegetables—all ingredients pan-fried over high heat. Before serving, a special sweet and spicy sauce is poured on top, the sauce is one of the important element of Oyster omelet. You must try Oyster omelet at Shilin Night Market (士林夜市),the nearest MRT station is Jiantan Station (劍潭站).
8. Cold Noodles (涼麵)
Perfect lunch for a hot summer day. Cold noodle cover with shredded chicken breast meat, strips cucumber, and of course special sesame sauce. There are numerous local stalls all around Taiwan and convenient stores that sell this tasty cold noodles.
9. Fried Bun (水煎包)
Pan-fried stuffed buns is a very popular meal in Taiwan, the bun usually stuffed with cabbages and pork. This snack can be bought at night markets all over Taiwan.
10. Mango Shaved Ice (芒果冰)
It’s the perfect delicious dessert for hot summer day, the combination flavour of sweet, cold, creamy, and fruity. Most restaurant offers many type of shaved ice, you can choice variety of toppings including different fruits, red beans, mung beans, yams, peanuts, chocolate sauce, and many more.

This butter bun is crispy and the inside is soft, it is also called pineapple bun. When you bite this bread, you can feel that cheese is melting in your mouth. It taste delicious and smells good!! I would recommended to try this bun in Shida Night Market (師大夜市), the nearest MRT station is Taipower Building Station (台電大樓站).

Pork spare ribs slowly braised in medicinal broth, usually the stall also sell braised pork rice. I love eating this especially in the winter so yummy (^oo^). Beef noodle is one of the most popular dish among the Taiwanese, usually it made of stewed beef, beef broth, vegetables and noodles. I do like Ding Tai Fung's (鼎泰豐) beef noodles, the light flavors of soup and juicy beef which make it a popular choice in the summertime or wintertime. Not only it's overprice but also there were A LOT of people waiting and queuing in any branch of Ding Tai Fung's restaurant in Taiwan, the last time I went there it took 90 - 120 minutes before we were seated. If you didn't have want to that long, you can also try it other stalls in night market it will cost much cheaper. |

Who doesn't like fried potato cover with cheese? A fresh potato fried then fill with basically everything such as bacon, ham, corn, pineapple, broccoli, mayonise, sausage, hard boiled egg, etc. Finally, two spoons of hot cheese pour into the fried potato. Stinky tofu is one of Taiwan's popular snack, many taiwanese said that the smellier the better. There are dozens of stinky tofu restaurants around Taiwan, you can smell the aroma from a far. I would prefer the deep fried one which is usually garnished with pickled cabbage.

14.Tempura (甜不辣)
This dish is variety of differently shaped tempura which are deep fried, then cooked in broth, contains of fishballs, meatballs, tofus, radishes, and of course with the signature sauce. Some stalls would served this a bowl of soup, the soup itself tastes just like the tempura, since it's absorbed the flavors of all the components. I would recommended to try this dish in Shida Night Market (師大夜市), the nearest MRT station is Taipower Building Station (台電大樓站).
15.Sweet potato (地瓜)
The sweet potato is usually yellow or red. The smell its nice and have nutrition on it that's why many Taiwanese used it in many different ways, such as roasted, fried it into sweet potato chips, added to soup, or even add some flour to make dessert. There are numerous street vendor all around Taiwan and convenient stores that sell many type of sweet potato dish. It really nice to eat warm roasted sweet potato especially int the winter.
16. Deep fried mashed potato (可樂餅)
Basically this snack is a stuffed with mashed potato or minced meat, coated with flour, eggs and breadcrumbs and finally deep fried it until the color turn golden. It's so crispy ans crunchy on the outside and soft in inside. I would recommended to try this dish in Gongguan Night Market (公館夜市), the nearest MRT station is Gongguan Station (公館站).
17. Hotpot (火鍋)
Many hotpot restaurants in Taiwan now offer a soup base which is made up of different Chinese herbs, you could choose to put any ingredients include thinly sliced meat, variety of vegetables, mushrooms, wontons, egg, dumplings, and seafood. You could eat it with rice or noodles and add a dipping sauce. I often eat hot pot meals in the winter.
